Children's Discovery Museum

I just returned from a vacation week in Alaska, and upon my return, we got started on fieldtrips for June.  This week we went to the Children's Discovery Museum to see the new Mammoth addition.  This mammoth was found right in our San Jose Guadelupe River here a few years ago.  Let's get started on our trip, follow us here....

We started off with the traditional firetruck and ambulance van, but our blog will be primarily the Mammoth Find, Small Animal Habitat and Water play areas.

Here is the entrance to the Mammoth center.  The kids were anxious to get started.

           Paleontology findings.

The washing of fossils in water and rough sand.

Puzzling fossils together as a team.

So little compared to so large.

Discovering geological landscapes from the past through exploring and playing.

In awe at the size and insides of a mammoth.

Comparing the weight of a mammoth on a scale to large animals of our time: cows, horses, pigs, sheep, etc.

After lunch, we then head over to the small Animal Habitat.

Look mama and papa, I can fly like an eagle.

Look at the 3 baby salmon I found.

We are waiting for our mommy eagle to come and feed us, cheep cheep.

Whoa..... Did you see how fast that ball was forced up with water?  Wow.

Following our trip, we returned home, rested, had a snack, then headed over to the library to gather new books for our upcoming theme next week.  It's a secret, but we'll share next week.
Oh, one last update on our group.  Our friend who moved last month, returned this week.  He still moved away, but all the kids missed each other so much that we are trying to keep them close by including him once a week.  See the big welcome hug given upon return.  Yay, Riley, so happy to have you back!
