Fire, Fire, Fire

Ha ha, now that I got your attention, no fires here!
I took the kidz on a fieldtrip to San Jose Fire Department #6.  They were so excited to learn about fire fighters and their jobs.  Where they live, eat and what they wear.  I also wanted to demystify the scary uniforms so the children knew never to be afraid of a firefighter.  Check us out and all we learned:

Our group arrived and we waited patiently for the tour to begin.

The kids listened as the fire fighter explained the job of protecting and serving our community.

We were taken to a room and showed the locations of all fire stations on a map.  Wow, there are lots of them out there.  Glad we have these guys to protect us.

We were then told about how long they had to stay and live at their jobs.  We went into their relaxing room and saw
art work on the wall of New York's Finest Fire Fighters.

We then headed out to see the real fire truck.

One by one we entered the fire truck and sat to listen about a description of what was in there.  Then we were taken out on the other side.  Wow, now that was fun!

Next one firefighter came in full gear and talked about his uniform.  He showed the kids how the oxygen tank worked and sounded so they wouldn't be afraid.  His uniform weighed over 70 lbs, and that's not including the tools in his pockets.

At the end of the tour, we were given sticker badges and we all got to take pictures of our heroes, the fire fighters of station #6.

Just another great day with PattyKakesKidz and their friends who joined us from Tanya's Learning Garden.

A big thank you to
San Jose Fire Dept. of Station #6
